Stock markets around the world edged higher on Tuesday amid signs of improving growth, even though questions about monetary policy limited gains. The Dow Jones industrial average and S&P 500 ended at all-time highs, while the dollar rose and gold fell.

The All Ordinaries index lost 15.6 points to end the day 0.36% lower at 4,365.6.
 
Sydney Airport Limited (SYD) lost 1.49% to close at $2.64 after announcing that total traffic for February had increased 0.4% on the prior corresponding period (pcp). This was mainly due to solid international passenger growth of 3.2% on pcp. Domestic passenger traffic was more subdued, falling 1.1% on pcp.

The All Ordinaries index gained 48.3 points to end the day 1.13% higher at 4,336.5.

The All Ordinaries index lost 58.7 points to end the day lower at 4,295.5.   S&P/ASX200 lost 58.3 points or 1.37% to 4,204.7.  Yesterday we posted that actually expected this drop.  Read here  And if it does not drop by MORE than -1% tomorrow at the open I will eat my hat!

Many clients ask us about investing in collectables in superannuation via a SMSF.  On 5 July 2010, the Cooper Review released the final report of its Review into the governance, efficiency, structure and operation of Australia's superannuation system. One of its recommendations was for: ‘SIS legislation, in relation to self managed superannuation funds (SMSFs) should be amended so that: 
  • the acquisition of collectables and personal use assets by SMSF trustees be prohibited;
