Australians are the richest in the world

Australians have the world’s highest median worth and the Asia-Pacific topped Europe as the largest wealth-holding region, according to Credit Suisse Group AG. (CSGN).  The Credit Suisse Global Wealth report 2012, which measured the wealth of 4.6 billion adults globally.

Consumption peaked in 1976 at 151 liters per capita, the highest in the world at the time, but then began its relentless multi-decade decline to a ridiculously low 107 liters in 2010. Well, ridiculously low for Germans. Only the Czechs drink more:

Over the past 10 years, strong exports of iron ore to China helped sustain the country's spectacular growth levels. It was the China growth story that helped countries like Australia stave off the full impact of the global financial crisis.
 
Last year, Australia exported around $44 billion worth of iron ore to China, netting the country (and the miners) some healthy income.
