The All Ordinaries index gained 44.5 points to end the day 1.03% higher at 4,364.6.
Downer EDI Limited (DOW) gained 7.1% to close at $3.79 after announcing that the NSW government had agreed to restructure the financing of Reliance Rail. It also announced that it had been awarded a six-year magnetite mining contract for Karara Mining Ltd which is expected to deliver revenue of approximately $570m over the contract term.
