Australia has historically held an admirable position on the world stage regarding philanthropic giving. As recently as 2010, the Gallup World Giving Index ranking place Australia in the number one position, ahead of other generous nations like the United States, Ireland, Canada and Switzerland. The index is based on surveys and other research on 153 various countries, which combined equal 95% of the entire world’s population.

According to APRA, SMSF assets increased by 12% ($45bn) to $419bn in the year to June 2011, compared to the retail sector (up 9% ($30bn) to $369bn). SMSFs have increased from 28% to 31% of the total superannuation industry since June 2007, with a corresponding decline in the retail fund sector.  This means more and more members leave retail superannuation and WRAPs and move to SMSF.

Morgan Stanley research suggests smartphone sales will outpace PC and laptop sales in 2012 with 650 million smartphones sold next year, then 1 billion annually by 2016 (Source: IMS Research). Goldman Sachs says the disruptive nature on smartphones and tablets will soon fully replace the laptop market, where laptops will remain only in third world countries due to low cost.
