The refusal of the Australian parliament in September 2012 to allow same-sex marriages was undoubtedly disappointing for homosexual couples looking to legalize their commitment. This, however, does not mean that same-sex relationships are considered illegitimate with respect to the superannuation entitlements. In terms of superannuation benefits, homosexual couples have the same or similar rights as married or de facto heterosexual couples, although this was not the case until relatively recently.

Is a son of a gay lesbian GLBT  same sex partner treated as a dependant for superannuation?

In America the LGBT market is $700 billion. US research found 92% of GLBT consumers are likely to try a brand known to provide equality at workplace including gays and lesbians and 64% are more likely to buy a product or service that is marketed directly to GLBT population. For many years we’ve felt that the Australian LGBT consumer is a huge developing market, but banks refused to acknowledge this or focus on it.

 Corporations don’t share the same ideology as religious zealots when it comes to same sex couples.  Corporate entities have recognised the persuasive financial prowess of same-sex unions.  Parties in same sex marriages, statistically, are higher educated, career-oriented and have more disposable income than the average heterosexual couple.

Same sex couples making a life for themselves in Australia don’t have to ask whether there is discrimination against same-sex couples at all levels.  They’ve lived it and experienced it firsthand.  The Federal government still has not recognised same-sex relationships.
