Morgan Stanley’s Global Wealth Management Group said its pre-tax income from continuing operations plunged to $244 million in the fourth quarter, while increasing to a total of $1.3 billion for the year.

Morgan Stanley research suggests smartphone sales will outpace PC and laptop sales in 2012 with 650 million smartphones sold next year, then 1 billion annually by 2016 (Source: IMS Research). Goldman Sachs says the disruptive nature on smartphones and tablets will soon fully replace the laptop market, where laptops will remain only in third world countries due to low cost.

From the report: "We are establishing a 2012 year-end price target of 1167, representing 7% downside from today’s price. The consensus top-down view has coalesced, with limited variation, around 1350, making our forecast 13% more conservative than the “muddle through” scenario implied by consensus."
