What To Bring To a Meeting

Financial Advice for all Australians - Free finance tips, tools, calculators, ebooks and strategies by leading financial advisers.

What do I need to bring to my first meeting?  In order to give you advice on how to financially plan and invest we need to find out about you, where you are now, your expectations and where you want to be in the future financially and what you hope to achieve.

Then an iMoney Wealth management financial advisor will conduct a fact finding interview. Your financial advisor will ask you about your personal circumstances and how your view risk (do you want a conservative investment plan or an aggressive one).

Don't be surprised when your financial planner asks for detailed personal information - they need it to put together your financial plan. They will ask for your:
  • Complete evaluation of your Assets & Liabilities
  • Information on any loans that you hold
  • Statements showing information on any investments that you have, including superannuation, managed funds, shares
  • Any other assets you have such as a family trust or Self managed Superannuation Fund, please provide us with your latest annual accounts and tax returns
  • Latest renewal notice for any personal insurance policies such as life, income protection, trauma, disability etc.
  • Personal Tax return from the previous year

Other things to keep in mind when talking to your financial advisor are:
  • when you hope to retire
  • education goals for your children and potential cost
  • do you own or are planning to purchase a holiday house
  • do you have a will
  • substantial future expenses

You may also wish to make yourself familiar with these forms and attempt to complete them in order to save you time during your first meeting:
Refer to A Guide - How to Complete presentation to help you complete Data Collection and the Risk Profile Forms.

Please, be aware that should you require investment advice, you will be required by law to complete an identification form in relation to Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing (AML-CTF) specific to you, your company or your trusts (where applicable):
